Meet Your Instructor: Kim Mathijs

Kim Mathijs has built an impressive 20-year career as resident DJ and closing act at Pukkelpop Festival, and has spent 18 years as a music curator and editor for Studio Brussel's renowned dance show Switch. His DJ projects include Ed&Kim (1999–present), Michael Midnight (2013–2023), The Whatevers (2012–present), Flashback Force (2017–present, with two other DJs), and his solo work under Kim Mathijs (2023–present).
His deep musical knowledge and years of live experience make him the ideal guide to take your DJ skills to the next level.

What is mixing in key?

Mixing in key means blending tracks that are in the same or harmonically compatible keys.
When done correctly, it makes your transitions sound natural and musical — like two singers harmonizing instead of clashing.
It's a subtle yet powerful technique that helps you build energy on the dancefloor without sudden or uncomfortable shifts, keeping the vibe smooth, connected, and flowing from start to finish.
